I am 39 years old single father of a 10-year-old son and a self-taught IT support technician. From a young age, I was interested in IT and this motivated me to teach myself about it. I have been working in various IT capacities since I was 18 years old.

Working experience

I have held various positions in IT at various institutions. From January 1998 to May 2000, I worked as a Desktop Support Technician at Sesame Workshop. As a Desktop Support Technician, I provided support to clients on level 1 and 2 issues over the phone or through face-to-face interaction when clients visited. From June 2000 to October 2003, I worked as a Desktop Support Manager at Principal Residential Services. In this position, I provided support to clients on helpdesk issues.

From October 2003 to January 2007, I worked as a Desktop Support Manager at Venaca. My main responsibility as a Desktop Support Manager was to troubleshoot various technical issues faced by the company. Between January 2007 and June 2011, I worked as a Senior Client Support Specialist where I was responsible for troubleshooting various desktop and Smart phone issues. Between June 2011 and August 2015, I worked as an IDM Systems Administrator at Columbia University. My main responsibility in this position was to install, upgrade, maintain and respond to service outages and system related issues. Currently, I work as a Manager of Technology at Columbia University. As a Manager of Technology, I am responsible for monitoring system status, troubleshooting hardware, and assessing application software.

The vast knowledge and experience I have gained through the various IT positions have helped me to enhance my skills as an IT technician. However, I wish to improve my knowledge and skills by going through a degree program in IT. This would be become a better IT manager and render better services to customers.

I have chosen to apply for a degree program at CUNY School of Professional Studies because it provides a perfect environment that will help me to enhance my knowledge and skills in IT. I feel that I will learn so much from the institution’s flourishing environment thereby fulfilling my potential in IT.
